DAN CROW SING-A-LING WITH FRIENDSDuring my many years performing throughout the US and the world I have noticed a disturbing lack of familiarity with American Folk Songs. I began to include a medley of some of these songs in my concerts, and was frequently asked if the full versions were on any of my recordings. I decided to make it so, and recruited many of my talented friends to join me in singing them. The best part of doing this is that they were all recorded live in studio, giving them an energy that may have been lost by over-producing. Singing them live is the way they have always been done with family and friends in living rooms and kitchens. It has been said that the only time large groups of people should get together is in song and I believe this. We have to keep singing these songs, among so many others, or they will be forgotten and we will have lost a big part of our American Spirit. Enjoy our Sing-A-Ling.

SING-A-LING Reviews

When you look over this CD’s song list, you’ll notice some very familiar titles (from “Pop Goes The Weasel” to “Old McDonald Had A Farm”). It may not appear like the most exciting set of tunes, but Dan Crow brings a freshness to his renditions of these family favorites. A mainstay of the Southern California children’s music scene, Crow lends his own expert touch to these classic American folk songs, and he has enlisted the assistance of music pals like Debi Derryberry, Dave Kinnoin, Peter Alsop and others. Joanie Bartels, for example, helps to bring some twang to “Oh Susanna” and “She’ll Be Coming Round The Mountain,” while Ian Whitcomb collaborates on “Yankee Doodle.”
Sing-A-Ling winds up a lively and lovely sampler of iconic Americana songs performed by the talented Crow and his skilled crew.

Sing-A-Ling With Friends, Dan Crow, Allshouse Family Entertainment, 2011; $15 CD; www.kidzmusic.com. “Dan Crow is good folks…so it only makes sense that he would get together with some of his favorite folks and make a terrific album of vintage folk music that is fresh as a daisy, right as rain and pure as the driven snow and…well, all that to say, you are in for a treat with a few clever tricks thrown in for good measure. Some highlights, amongst many, include guest performers Debi Derryberry (Pop Goes the Weasel), Joanie Bartels’ dulcet tones on (Oh, Susanna), Peter Alsop (This Old Man) and Ian Whitcomb, yes, that Ian Whitcomb (Yankee Doodle). Bonus track Talk Like A Pirate Day is a festive feast for the ears featuring silly voices, fun sound effects and buckets o’ pirates. If Justin Timberlake can bring sexy back then Dan Crow just brought folk songs back into the limelight. Enjoy!
